Since 2019 artist Lisa Truttmann has been exploring the material echoes and consequences of a fire that destroyed her apartment and studio. First the flames and then the extinguishing water devastated and deformed a large part of her personal belongings, artistic works and materials. Since this radical event, Truttmann has directed her focus on the relationship between humans and objects and developed her work series Memorabilien in different forms and media.

In her installation Aufstellung der Dinge (Constellation of Things), Truttmann shows a selection of the objects that she was able to salvage, including a severely charred book, warped into a sculpture as well as melted video cassettes, a scorched childhood diary and other everyday things. They are exhibited in glass vitrines — making them untouchable and further strengthening their transition from things to objects through recontextualisation. On the acoustic level Truttmann contrasts the eleven rescued objects with an abstract mass of irretrievably lost things. In a 5-channel audio composition we hear a listing of the complete inventory of the apartment at the time of the fire; intensified by the increasing speed of speech and the superimposition of the audio tracks, the voice makes the present absence tangible.
