In 2019, Lisa Truttmann’s apartment and studio were completely destroyed in a major fire. In her work Memorabilien, she revisits this pivotal life event to reflect on the meaning of personal belongings and their potential as art objects. Truttmann salvaged fragmentary items, archiving and staging them as photographic and cinematic still lifes.

In a playful, essayistic approach, she invites viewers into her creative and conceptual processes, weaving a web in which the relationship between subject and object is continuously redefined. Throughout this process of medial abstraction, the memorabilia also undergo a spatial transformation: moving images detach from the projection screen, the cinema space opens up, the stage becomes a temporary photo and film studio, and ultimately transforms into a walk-in exhibition environment.
