The coloration of water is scientifically described as apparent and true. It is dependent on the suspended particles and dissolved substances it contains, as well as on the incident light and its reflections. For Lisa Truttmann, water as a processual, flowing body is a material ally, a subject, and a metaphor in her artistic engagement with photography and film. The absence of color in her photographic traces points to the influences that are reflected and interconnected in water: minerals and organic particles, industrial and chemical contaminants, still and moving thoughts, interpretation and projection, past and future, ecology and crisis.
