Folds of Stone

Experimental short, 2022

Experimental short, 2022

DCP, AT, 4:07 min.
Filmed at Gesäuse National Park
In collaboration with Nicole Krenn

Rock is subject to constant change. Forces of nature, geodynamics, and human interventions shape this seemingly rigid material into something akin to a living organism, perceptible only through the lens of geological time.

In the short film Folds of Stone, stones appear to breathe, grooves pulse, rocks tremble, material vibrates. Microscopic landscapes come alive and dissolve into imagery. Surface, materiality, and structure oscillate between jagged rock edges and the soft folds of silky fabric. Nicole Krenn and Lisa Truttmann have adapted their multimedia installation—originally shown in a former sawmill in Gesäuse National Park—for the cinema space, exploring the gestures of touching and unfolding as artistic acts.
